The Coal County Jail Service had a long and successful history. It was started by Pastor Jim Smith of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. For 35 years he missed a service once a year to go to his Church’s Convention or was ill. I started working with him in the last year or so of his ministry.

The Coal County General Hospital helipad has gotten a facelift that makes it much easier and safer for helicopter landings. Sheriff Bryan Jump and a couple of his work crew spent three days doing the preliminary preparation work and painting.

The Coalgate Wildcats fought hard but came up short in a tough matchup against Beggs last Friday night, bringing their season record to an even 4-4. Despite a rally in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats couldn’t quite close the gap for a comeback.

This morning I had the privilege of seeing firsthand the beautiful historical murals created by the Art students at Coalgate High School. These four murals were started three years ago under the supervision of the CHS Principal Hyatt and Coalgate Public Schools Superintendent Ward.
