Read moreREUBEN JACKSON BURGE will celebrate his 90 birthday on May 14. He was born in 1932 in Coalgate, OK to Reuben (Rube) and Velma Burge. He served two years with the U.S. Army at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CO and then Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK as a Corporal in the 3 Section A Battery of the 537 Field Artillery Battalion Unit. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma honored him as September Veteran of the Month in 2021. He and Betty have been married 70 years and have two children, Sharon Hedrick of Coalgate and Stephen Burge of Allen. Reuben has always enjoyed work on the farm raising cattle and a garden. It is not unusual to see him driving the tractor to pick up hay bales, despite protests from family. He enjoys helping others and his sweet and quiet demeanor is a blessing to family and friends.

Read moreJackie Nadyne (Lang) Grotteland, a Coalgate resident, passed away April 30, 2022, at Coalgate at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 17 days. She was born August 13, 1943 to Ollie Jackson and Alice Lorene (Chick) Lang at Stringtown, OK. Jackie attended school in Muleshoe, TX and was a cook for Furr’s Cafeteria for 30 years. She married Scott Grotteland February 16, 1977 in Amarillo, TX. He preceded her in death seven years ago. Jackie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coalgate and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.
