Service held for Roy Dan Burns

Funeral services for Roy Dan Burns, a Coalgate resident, were held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor Richard Magby officiating, assisted by Bro. Danny Ward. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Burns was born November 16, 1931 to William “Bill” and Sarah (Norris) Burns at Coalgate, OK and passed away February 10, 2022 at Atoka, OK at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 25 days.

Roy Dan attended Eastside Coalgate School and married his sweetheart, Anita June Trow, on July 16, 1949 at DeQueen, AR. They were blessed with 72 wonderful years together.

Mr. Burns was a street foreman and Public Works Director for the City of Coalgate. He took care of the Coalgate Cemetery for many years and was a rancher. He was a First Presbyterian Church Elder. He served on the Olney School Board and was a hard worker.

Roy Dan enjoyed taking care of his cattle, driving his tractors and chewing his Five Brothers tobacco while out at the pasture. He enjoyed deer hunting and coon hunting. He liked playing softball in his younger years and enjoyed watching football, baseball games and rodeos. His most cherished times were spent at family gatherings visiting with everyone and spoiling his kids and grandkids. When he was younger, he loved to dance with his sweetheart.

Survivors include his wife, Anita June Burns; sons, Danny Ray Burns and wife Kay of Pittsburg, OK, Roy Carroll Burns and wife Melena of Lookeba, OK; daughter, LaDonna June Rains of Bentley, OK; grandchildren, Tammie Mae Price and husband Chris of Seminole, TX, Shanda Dayton and husband Cory of Fairview, OK, Josh Burns and wife Jodi of Hinton, OK, Morgan Rains and wife Liz, Meagan Weger and husband John, Mallory Rains, all of Bentley, OK, Daniel Burns and wife Destiny of Cottonwood, Dillon Burns and wife Kelsey of Coalgate, Zachary Hunt and wife Jessica of Lane, OK, and Misti Crawley and husband Gary of Kiowa, OK; greatgrandchildren, Levi and wife Jalyn, Luke and wife Maggie, Kelsi and husband Brody, Ethan and wife Sierra, Cody and wife Aivrie, Brody, Tucker, Hunter, Colten, Mackenzie, JW, Harley, Kylie, Chloe, Maggie, Cooper, Jet, Chasson and Asher; great-great-grandchildren, Lucy, Barrett, Everly, Carter, Skyler “June Bug”, Hadlee, Weston, Waylon, Wylie, Lachlan and one on the way; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dearly loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Sarah (Norris) Burns; sisters, Ada Thornton and Opal Ford; brothers, William “Sonny” Burns and Donald Burns; and son-in-law, James Rains.

Casketbearers were Josh Burns, Morgan Rains, John Weger, Levi Price, Luke Price, and Joe Don Burns. Honorary bearers were Marion Parker, Kevin Guinn, Don Wood, Bob Burns, Chris Clymer, Dan Loudermilk, Johnny Bellettini, Matthew Parker, Phillip Wood, Cody Wills, Brody Wills, Henry Ringels, Rusty Price and Tucker Burns.
