Services for Ola Fay (Hampton) Reed of Coalgate were held Friday, January 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Coalgate, OK. Pastor Jim Lewis officiated. Burial was at Moore Cemetery.
Ola passed away on January 25, 2022 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 101 years, 11 months and 29 days. She was born January 27, 1920, to James Charlie and Melva Selene (Hicks) Hampton at Coal County, OK.
She married George Reed on January 25, 1941 at the Magness Barbershop in Coalgate. Mr. Magness was their preacher and since they didn’t get married on Sunday at the church, they were married at his barbershop.
Ola was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Coalgate and attended regularly until she was well over 100 years old. She was a Manor volunteer for many years where she enjoyed helping the residents do quilting projects. Ola liked to crochet, work in her garden and can. She was an excellent cook and known all over for the hamburgers, pot roast and tomato macaroni she prepared at Hudson’s.
Ola loved playing games. She enjoyed living life to its fullest. It wasn’t uncommon to find her in the floor playing with her grandchildren, on the back of a motorcycle or on a Ski-Doo. Many generations of adults and children went to her house every Halloween where she was dressed in her costume handing out her famous popcorn balls.
She is survived by her children: Ruby Lee Archer and husband Dolphus of Tupelo, OK, Eva Rose Armer and husband Paul of Philips, OK, George Edward Reed and wife Carol of Coalgate, OK, and Brenda Fay Coffee and husband Jimmy of Coalgate, OK; grandchildren: Rita Gail Armer of Oklahoma City, OK, Stacie Michelle Woody and husband Robert of Shawnee, OK, Heather Annette Wood and husband Eddie of Allen, TX, Joel Allen Coffee and wife Kara of Coalgate, OK, and Kenneth Wayne Coffee of Coalgate, OK; great-grandchildren: Jake, Cord and Zoie Coffee, Joshua Cash Coffee and Kayden Bellettini, and Andy and Avery Wood; special caregiver Faye Ratcliff; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dearly loved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Charlie and Melva Selene (Hicks) Hampton; husband, George Reed; son, Roy Ray Reed; brothers, Uel Hampton, Loy Hampton, Ira Hampton and Jimmy Hampton; and sister, Eva Hicks.
