Funeral services for Curtis Lynn Nelson, a longtime Coalgate resident, were held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Ella Mae Ward officiating. Burial was in Moore Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arangements.

Curtis was born June 13, 1957 to Doyle Curtis Nelson and Mary Jo (Schultz) Nelson at Ada, OK and passed away March 13, 2025 at Coalgate at the age of 67 years and 9 months. He attended schools at Clarita and Olney and graduated from Olney High School with the Class of 1975. Curtis worked as an operator and spread man for the pipeline. He married Sheila June Vick on September 19, 1975 at the Coalgate Church of Christ. They were blessed with 49 years together. Together they built a beautiful family full of love. Curtis enjoyed hunting with his coon dogs and mules. His favorite times were spent watching his grandchildren play ball and taking them hunting and fishing. Curtis loved going up on the ranch to work and look at the deer, elk and hogs and taking the kids all fishing. He loved his food!

Survivors include his wife Sheila June Nelson of the home in Coalgate; sons, Josh Nelson and wife Kristy and Milo Nelson and wife Melissa, all of Tupelo, OK; grandchildren, Payten Nelson, Ethan Nelson, Olivia Nelson, Taytum Nelson and Berkley Kate Nelson; brother, Ricky Nelson and wife LeaAnn of Clarita, OK; sisters-in-law, Faye Winningham of Wapanucka, OK, and Carleen Jemison of Coalgate; nephew, Marshall Jemison; brother-in-law, W. C. Vick, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Coalgate; wife of father, Lougena Nelson of Clarita, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many, many dearly loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Curtis Nelson and Mary Jo (Schultz) Nelson; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Alice Vick; sister, Doylene Nelson; nephews, Keith Moralez and Juan Foreman; brother-inlaw, Del Juan Foreman; and good friend, Cy Clark.

Casketbearers were Phillip Lefevre, Keith Bowen, Chase Andrews, Jeremiah Golden, Jeremiah Foreman, Brian Ringels, Bryan Jump, Doyle Patton and Drew Parker. Honorary bearers were Payten Nelson, Ethan Nelson, Olivia Nelson, Taytum Nelson, Berkley Nelson, Nico Lee, Nick Lee, Cody Flint, Ricky Nelson, Curtis Moore, Ted Moore, Holden Lampkin, Joseph Foreman, Calab Ward and Chuck Loudermilk.
