Coal County 4-H hosts annual awards program

Coal County 4-H Club celebrated National 4-H Month by conducting their annual awards program on Friday, October 16, at the Coal County Extension conference room. Medals and awards were presented to 4-H members who had submitted record books and special awards for 4-H participation. Along with medals and awards, scholarships totaling $3,000 were awarded to 4-H members in Coal County. Guest speaker for the program was Keona Mason, the SE District Representative on the state council, State 4-H Ambassador and the Johnston County 4-H President.

Born in the 1930s and early 1940s, we exist as a very special age cohort. We are the “last ones.” We are the last, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the war itself with fathers and uncles going off. We are the last to remember ration books for everything from sugar to shoes to stoves. We saved tin foil and poured fat into tin cans. We saw cars up on blocks because tires weren’t available.
