Read moreLEFT—Sherrry Farris-Many in Coalgate recognize Sherry Farris whenever she is seen around town. There are many, though, who recognize her as their teacher or their children’s teacher. Mrs. Farris was a familiar face in the halls of Emerson many years ago. She started teaching in 1971 and retired in 2002. During that period, she taught Kindergarten and Special Education. She was the reading specialist at Emerson for a couple of years until the administration needed another first-grade teacher. Her first-year teaching first grade, she had thirty-three students. She handled it with finesse and, not long afterward, became one of the most popular teachers at Emerson Elementary. Mrs. Farris has returned to Emerson to substitute. It is not an easy job, but she has handled it with grace. She has quickly become familiar with technology and the many changes that have taken place since she retired. She has fit right in and once again has become that familiar face in the halls of Emerson.

Read moreNettie Dean (Kirtley) Adams, a Harrah resident, passed away December 7, 2020 at her home in Harrah, OK surrounded by her family. She was born June 25, 1935 to Arthur Debs and Louise (Hamlett) Kirtley at Lebanon, OK at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 12 days. She attended schools in Oklahoma and was a housewife and seamstress. Nettie married Robert “Bob” Bert Adams on December 29, 1984 in Mt. Pleasant, TX. They resided in Coalgate. He preceded her in death November 30, 2013. Nettie was a loved and respected wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1957 and served as a full-time pioneer for several years. Nettie resided in Harrah, OK with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Kevin. She helped care for her parents and worked as a seamstress with her sister Mattie for many years Nettie loved gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.
