While watching our teen-aged son play four years of high school basketball games years ago, we both noticed an absolute truth; Our son could not seem to grasp that he wasn’t able to block every shot that was put up by the opposing team. He obviously believed that it was his God-given job to stop any player headed to the goal. Of course, you know what happened. He got his five allowable fouls in about, um, the first fifteen minutes of play. Then according to basketball rules, the referees would be obliged to ask him to leave the floor and spend the remainder of the game as the coach’s favorite ‘rider of the pine.’ Over and over again.

A team of destiny - 1954-55 Coalgate Wildcats Boys Hoopsters

The Coalgate Wildcats pulled off a near “Cinderella” story 70, yes 70, years ago this month. The purple and white cagers finished 3rd in the Little Dixie Conference and an 18-6 regular season record. They had entertained the Coalgate fans to a nice season, but little was anyone prepared for what happened next in Oklahoma high school basketball.

Arrest warrants have been in effect since March 7 for a man and woman facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property.

Coalgate couple charged with stealing chainsaw

A Coalgate woman and man were arrested March 17 for the larceny of a chainsaw. The female, Betti Roberts, 51, has been charged with misdemeanor petit larceny in Coal County District Court. Michael Riley, a member of the Choctaw Nation, is facing charges in the Choctaw Nation District Court.
