LaVetta Frances Crawford
LaVetta Frances Crawford left this earthly realm on Monday, October 4, 2021, after succumbing to Covid. She was 90 years old. She was born on September 9, 1931 to Augusta Mae Jones in Stratford, Oklahoma. She grew up and lived most of her life in the Ada area.
She met the love of her life, Britton Crawford, at the skating rink and married him at the age of 15. They were married for almost 70 years before his death in 2015. They raised five children together.
She was a teacher and librarian at Tupelo High School, Tushka High School and Coalgate High School. She touched the lives of many young people and kept up with many of her former students over the years.
LaVetta loved to cook, quilt and crochet. It was common for her to host large family gatherings. Her family was her greatest treasure and these special times left wonderful memories for all.
Those preceding her in death include her mother, Mae Standridge; her husband, Britton Crawford, her son, David Crawford and her daughter, Brenda Smith.
Those left behind to mourn her loss include son, Glenn Crawford, of Bonham, Texas, and daughters, Jeanette (Gary) LaFevers of Belton, Texas, and LaNell (Robert) Theser of Diana, Texas; she leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Robin Jowers (Tony Lowe), Heather Huffman, Joseph (Angela) Crawford, Scott Crawford, Stan LaFevers, Aimee LaFevers (Raymond Baker), Katie LaFevers (Sebastian Brinkmann), Cara (Dago) Cardenas, Andy (Tammy) Workman, Michelle Smith, Brion (Corinna) Smith, Patrick Smith (Christa Cunningtubby) and Mikel Smith.
She also has 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Garden Estates, the caregivers from Mrs. Bee’s Private Care, and the Palliative Care Unit at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
Visitation will be from 7:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, October 8, at Criswell Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on October 9, also at Criswell Funeral Home followed by interment at Rosedale Cemetery.
