Service held for Jeffery “Jeff” Wade Sewell
Funeral services for Jeffery “Jeff” Wade Sewell, an Atoka, OK resident, (raised in OKC in his early years, moved to Coalgate in grade school and then moved to Atoka his freshman year in high school) will be held Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Atoka Football Field in Atoka with OHP Chaplin Sam Garner, Bro. Joe Chapin and Bro. John Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sewell was born Friday, November 3, 1961to Max Lee and Billye Sue (Thomas) Sewell in Oklahoma City and passed away September 26, 2020 in Denison, TX at the age of 58 years, 10 months and 23 days. He attended Telstar, Oak Ridge, his favorite elementary school Little Axe, Coalgate, and Atoka High School where he graduated in 1980. He was junior high quarterback, linebacker, tight end and defensive end for Atoka High School; was named All District and All Area Football Player for Atoka and was said to be one of the toughest players Atoka produced.
Jeff graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and went on to attend the OHP Academy in 1988, graduating in July 1988 from the 43rd Academy. He was shot in the line of duty in November 1988 while serving the OHP in Roger Mills County. He then received Trooper of the Year in 1988.
Jeff married Ellen Denise Ring July 24, 1982 in Ada, OK and they celebrated 38 years of marriage before his passing. He was a longtime member of Atoka First Baptist Church where he was very involved and served as Deacon and taught Sunday School through the years. Jeff was DARE instructor for several area schools, active with the Cadet Lawmen Academy, was TAC Supervisor with the OHP 55th Academy in 2005 and was a rancher and enjoyed his cattle and baling hay. He was very involved in the local Special Olympics and Tip A Cop, always attended the Special Olympics summer games in Stillwater, OK, was very passionate about football, was a several time marathon finisher, ran OKC Bombing Marathon three different times, was volunteer fireman for Atoka seven and a half years and was Firefighter of the Year in 1995. Jeff was actively involved in Celebrate Recovery - Atoka, The Sarah House, a recovery program, and got the most enjoyment entertaining the old coffee drinkers at the Atoka Truck Stop at table 12. More than anything, Jeff loved being “Pa” to his five grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Denise Sewell of the home in Atoka; mother, Sue Flowers of Atoka; children, Jenni Allen and husband Tommy of Bentley, OK and Randi Sue Hauff and husband, Casey of Atoka; five grandchildren, Mady Hauff, Kamri Hauff, both of Atoka, Kamrynn Allen of Bentley, Logan Joy Sewell of Atoka, and Kasen Max Allen of Bentley; siblings, Tom Sewell and wife Debbie of Plano, TX, Wayne Sewell and wife Maria, Tammi Miller and husband Danny, Hugh Sewell and friend Diane Durant, all of Atoka, Dennis Flowers and wife Debra of Coleman, Jerry Flowers and wife Maressa of Union City, OK and Rhonda Lacy and husband Don of Clinton, OK; mother-in-law, Joy Ring of Holdenville, OK; brother-in-law, Russell Ring and wife Tina of Holdenville; Special Kids he loved, Jesse Burge, Carson McCall, Ryder Hurt, Fisher Hurt, Shyler Hurt, Tucker Potts, Tanner Allen, and Skylar Burrage; his Atoka First Baptist Church Sunday School Class, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Lee Sewell; father, Bill Flowers; father-in-law, Joh n Ring; brother-in-law, John Randall Ring and nephew, Benji Sewell.
Casketbearers will be Lt. Shawn Pierce #125, Lt. Shane Allen #143, Trooper Russell Knoke #738, Trooper Scott King #634, Captain Jansen Idlett #41, Trooper Jamey Miller #568, Trooper Kevin Miller #824, and Clifton Miller. Honorary bearers will be fellow referees, Bruce Usher, David Durbin, Brian Walker, Butch Vietta, Rusty Daniel, Mike Granger, Larry Woods, Ronnie Faulkenberry, James Brown, and Gary McCool.
