L. A. Hudson, longtime resident of Sherman, Texas, died surrounded by his family, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at age 85. L. A. was born in Ada, Oklahoma, on September 23, 1939, to Arvard Patton Hudson and Florence Juanita Hudson of Coalgate, Oklahoma. He married Dorothy May Mitchell on, June 4, 1961, in Shaw, Mississippi. He met his bride at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony, an opera summer workshop, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Everyone of Arvard Hudson’s kids first worked at Hudson’s Big Country Store in Coalgate, and they all loved music, singing and performing. L. A. was a talented, selftaught ventriloquist at the age of 13 and performed regularly on the Hudson Brothers’ Show on KTEN television.

L. A. graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in education, and received his Marketing Education Certification from the University of North Texas. He taught elementary school in Denison for 3 years, marketing Co-op at Sherman High School for 20 years, and ended his career in education as a middle school counselor at Piner Middle School for 11 years. He served for over 30 years in education by the time he retired in 2003. Mr. Hudson also served several years in the Air National Guard.

L. A. enjoyed performing not only as a ventriloquist, but also as a singer/ actor. He performed in many musicals at Finley Playhouse in Sherman, the Vent Haven ConVENTion in Ft. Mitchell, KY, and the Senior Follies at the Eisemann Center in Richardson.

L. A. loved the LORD and served in churches in many ways, as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Lay witness missions, and leading music as a soloist and choir member. He loved people and was kind and friendly to everyone. He was one of the best fathers you could ever ask for and was marked by kindness and humility. He was a gracious husband and had a wonderful sense of humor. He is deeply loved by his family and greatly missed.

L. A. was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Hudson, who died in childbirth; his parents, Arvard and Juanita Hudson; brothers Charles Hudson (wife Johnarline) of Coalgate, OK, and Harold Hudson (wife, Martha) of Denison, TX; niece Candy Hudson of Denison. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Jennifer Hudson Kiser and husband Stephen Kiser of Allen, TX; granddaughters Caroline and Georgia Kiser of Allen, TX; sister, Marianne DeMoss of Bells, TX and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life memorial service is planned for Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2 pm at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 7820 Silverado Trail McKinney, TX 75070. Memorial contributions can be made in L. A.’s memory to The Salvation Army of North Texas.
