The three-day filing period for the Coalgate City Council, Coalgate Board of Education, Cottonwood Board of Education and Tupelo Board of Education closed Wednesday, December 7, with the following Declarations of Candidacy filed at the Coal County Election Board office: Coalgate City Council – Councilperson at Large: Tammie Barnett Coalgate Board of Education – Office #3: Mark Benedict Cottonwood Board of Education – Office #1: Brenda Smith Tupelo Board of Education – Office #1 unexpired term: Jeremy Ellis Tupelo Board of Education – Office #3: Cristine Wortman; Karrie Watson Cristine Wortman and Karrie Watson will face each other in the February 14 Primary Election for the Tupelo Board of Education Office #3 seat.
