On the morning of April 11, 2023, tragedy struck on State Highway 48, 7 miles south of Wapanucka, OK in Johnston County. At approximately 6:33 AM, a fatal collision involving two vehicles occurred, leaving one driver dead and another injured. Shanelle Watts, a 51-year-old white female from Coalgate, OK was driving a 2003 Ford Van south on State Highway 48 when she struck the rear of a 1987 Peterbilt Semi driven by Robert Grimes, a 56-year-old white male from Atoka, OK. Grimes had stopped to make a left turn when the collision occurred.
