Christmas is in the air – and merchants in downtown Coalgate have begun decorating for the Parade of Lights and the first annual Christmas on Main that will take place Saturday evening, December 12. This is the Christmas tree at City Hall before it was adorned with lights and brightly colored ornaments. It appears that the Grinch — or perhaps one of Santa’s naughty elves — decided to have some fun and decorate it with a huge mask. Not sure what role Commissioners Secretary Mary Eddings played in the covert mission, but one has to wonder why she’s standing by the tree with a mischievous smile on her face…

A routine traffic stop conducted by the Coalgate Police Department in downtown Coalgate during the early morning hours of November 25 led to the seizure of 2.47 pounds of methamphetamine, a stolen car, and a firearm. The estimated street value of the meth is $50,000 - $100,000, according to the arresting officer, Dyllan Brown. It is the largest meth seizure in recent history in Coal County – and possibly the largest seizure ever made.
