Service to be Held for David Howard Vaughn

Funeral services for David Howard Vaughn, a Coalgate resident, will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.at the First Baptist Church in Coalgate with Bro. Jack Kisby officiating, assisted by Bro. Jay Kisby. Family night will be Thursday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Vaughn Family Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

David was born August 29, 1947 to Harold George and Mary Luella (Griffith) Vaughn in Denver, Colorado and passed away March 24, 2024 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 24 days. He graduated from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, Oklahoma in 1965 and went on to attend Bethel Baptist University in Atoka County for the fall of 1965. After its untimely closure, he went on to attend East Central University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education on May 14, 1971.

He began his U. S. Postal career with the Coalgate Post Office, working there some odd 20 years, before accepting a position as Postmaster for the Tupelo Post Office where he retired in 2004. David married Vicki Lynn Massie on October 28, 1966 in Coalgate. They enjoyed 57 years together before his passing. He was Music Director for the Coalgate First Baptist Church and the Cottonwood Baptist Church for many decades. He sang for countless funerals and occasions all across this region of the state until his illnesses no longer allowed. David liked target shooting, cooking, eating great food, singing gospel music, laughing and practical jokes, trips to Branson, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Lynn Massie Vaughn of the home in Coalgate; children, Amy Vaughn Mauk and husband David of Coalgate, Adam David Vaughn and wife Sabrina of Durant, OK, and Anne Vaughn of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Aaron David Mauk of Coalgate, Breuklynd Vaughn, Zachary Vaughn, both of Durant and Ryan David Vaughn of Coalgate; brother, George Vaughn and wife, Deannie of Vinita, OK; sister, Sharon Kisby and husband, Jim of Nicholasville, KY; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Luella (Griffith) Vaughn; brothers, Donald Vaughn and Jack Vaughn; and sister Patricia Ulmer.

Casketbearers will be Nathan Vaughn, Zach Vaughn, Ryan Vaughn, AD Mauk, Jeff Kisby, Matthew Vaughn, Danny Wood, Jason Vaughn and Zach A. Vaughn.
