Many stopped here because of the cold springs. Some simply stayed a bit, camping on the river. And yes, the great Canadian River was quite a stream then. No one had built dams, lakes or to impede its flow toward the Mississippi. Commercial steamboats even made their way up this river as far as Ft. Holmes.

Carmen is a Coalgate High School student in the Teacher Prep and Early Care Education Program and Ray is an Atoka High School student in the Computer Information Technology Program. Carmen and Ray are each going to be awarded a $100 check courtesy of Pruett’s Food in Atoka.
