Read moreKEEPING OUR ROADWAYS CLEAN — Came across these guys last week on SH 3 west of Coalgate and couldn’t resist stopping to tell them how nice and clean the highway looked. Regardless of how hot the weather gets, the Coal County inmate work crew is usually out working five days a week picking up litter, mowing cemeteries, cutting and chipping brush along roadways, or clearing illegal trash dumps. These workers are (L-R) Oscar Dean Campbell, Robert Buckley, Jose David Muniz and Tom Hart (names used with permission). The voluntary inmate work program was implemented by Sheriff Bryan Jump in February 2013. On July 1, 2013, it officially became the DIRT (Daily Inmate Roadside Task) Program.
