E. E. Emerson Elementary installs unique vending machine

When most people hear the words vending machine, many images pop into our heads. Images of our favorite candy bars, crunchy chips, gum, a refreshing soda, and even sandwiches. E. E. Emerson has installed their own vending machine. Mrs. Debra Johnson, Principal and Director of the IAL-Innovative Approaches to Literacy Program grant, purchased a very special and unique vending machine that has found its home just right outside the door of the library. This is a book vending machine. This vending machine isn’t accessed by just anyone. This vending machine is accessed by those students who have been rewarded with a golden coin. To earn the golden coin, a student must receive one from a teacher for demonstrating good citizenship, good behavior, or whatever action the teacher wants to reward. Students are so excited to have the opportunity to use the vending machine.

Kim Kardashian West Visits Julius Jones on Death Row in McAlester

Global celebrity and activist Kim Kardashian West traveled to Oklahoma on Monday to visit with Julius Jones, a 40-year-old man on death row being held in Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Jones, who is black, was convicted in 1999 of shooting a white businessman in Edmond but has maintained that he is innocent and was never even at the scene of the crime.
