WE REMEMBER 9/11/01 — Coalgate Fire Department/EMS joined other fire departments around the nation on September 11 in remembrance and honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of others. The Coalgate Fire Department’s American flag was hoisted from the department’s ladder truck above a mound of firefighter helmets and bunker gear. For all the men and women who were killed during the 9/11 attacks, countless lives were saved by the bravery of others. 343 firefighters and 2,997 civilians lost their lives. —Photo by Sherry Loudermilk
