Joe Nichols

Visitation was held Friday, December 16, 2022 at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for Coalgate resident, Joe Nichols. Joe passed away December 14, 2022 at Coalgate at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 7 day. He was born February 7, 1937 to Henry Nichols and Elsie May (Lane) Jameson at Stringtown, OK. Joe served 4 years in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959. He married Dovie Bryant July 30, 1965 at Midwest City, OK. They were married 57 years. Joe worked in bridge construction, was a pipeliner, welder and a logger. He was a member of the Pipeline Union. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time in the woods watching the animals. Joe enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He loved to watch football and play cards and dominoes with his family and friends on the holidays.

Kerry Dewayne Taylor passes away

Kerry Dewayne Taylor, a Coalgate resident, passed away December 8, 2022 at Coalgate at the age of 57 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was born February 16, 1965 to Billy Travis Taylor and Beverly Jean (Jones) Wilson at Coalgate. Kerry graduated from Caddo High School and attended East Central University. He worked on the pipeline and enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

This year’s Coal County Tree Lighting was dedicated in Paula Carney’s honor. She was recognized at the lighting by Chamber President Johnnie Joe Sandmann and Choctaw Councilman James Frazier.
