Funeral services for James Woodrow Harris, a Tupelo resident, were held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Larry Hawkins officiating, assisted by Randy Wade. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Ernie Fanning Retires

Those of us who have taught here or even those that have lived herE for any period of time, know Ernie Fanning. He is as well known around Coalgate as Nike is to tennis shoes. Ernie is a lifelong resident of Coalgate. He graduated in 1975 and received a full football scholarship to East Central University in Ada, OK. During his last semester at ECU, his grandfather, B.B. Franklin, had a stroke. Though difficult, Ernie made the only decision he could make. He left school and headed home to help on the family ranch and the cattle order buying business. He was raised with strong family values. When family needs help, you step up and do what you can. He left college behind and focused on the ranch. While working on the ranch, he also began assisting Bobby English with building homes.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital “Math-a-thon”

Eleven students from Emerson Elementary raised $1,588.00 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They participated in the St. Jude Math-A-Thon during the month of March 2021. This support will help St. Jude continue the dream of its founder Danny Thomas to ensure that “no child should die in the dawn of life”.
