KINDNESS IN ACTION

KINDNESS IN ACTION — The Coal County Farm Bureau women’s committee presented 227 pairs of eyeglasses to the Coalgate Lions Club on November 16. The glasses were collected during a local donation drive and will be given to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where they will be sorted and cleaned and their prescription strengths determined. Donated glasses are packaged and stored for future vision missions in the United States as well as foreign countries. They are given free of charge to children and adults who may otherwise not have the means to obtain eyeglasses. Charles Kirk Loudermilk passes away

Charles Kirk Loudermilk, a Coalgate resident, passed away November 16, 2021 at Coalgate at the age of 57 years, 10 months and 1 day. He was born January 15, 1964 to Charles Seward and Linda Faye (Graham) Loudermilk at North Ridge, CA. Kirk attended Olney High School and served in the National Guard. He married Cynthia Delene Airington and worked as a ranch hand. Kirk was of the Pentecostal faith. He loved fishing, camping and hunting with his nieces and nephews. He was known to them as Uncle Smurf. Kirk was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and reading the Bible.

I love this time of year. Most of us have so much to be thankful for. I really enjoy getting together with the family (most of them). Thanksgiving also brings back a lot of memories. As a child we would all gather at my grandparents where my grandmother had prepared a feast. This was before cell phones, so we actually talked to each other at the table. Before dessert the men would go into the living room to talk and smoke. We youngsters would go outside to play basketball or ride bikes.
