Robert Darrell McAusland, a Tupelo resident, passed away January 27, 2023 at Lula, OK at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 29 days. He was born September 29, 1956 to James and Louise Christine (Blevins) McAusland at Oklahoma City. Robert graduated from Tupelo High School and was a general laborer and ranch hand. He loved animals, going fishing and looking for arrowheads.

Shirley Marie McKendrick

Aprivate family celebration will be held Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. for Shirley Marie McKendrick, a Caney resident, who was raised in Atoka County and lived in Hugo and Coalgate. She was born May 10, 1950 to Joseph and Christine Marie (Allen) Campbell at Talihina, OK and passed away January 26, 2023 at her home in Caney, OK at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 16 days. She attended High Hill School and graduated from Atoka High School in 1969. Shirley was a seamstress and worked for Blue Bell/Wrangler. She married Allen Frank McKendrick October 8, 1970 at Atoka. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before his passing in 2017. Shirley was a member of New Zion Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, painting, knitting and cooking whatever they wanted for the grandchildren.

“TAKING UP THE MIDDLE PART OF THE ROAD”

Years ago, as elementary students at a tiny country school, our bus driver took us to school in his huge station wagon. That meant we kids got to talk with him for an entire hour – both ways. Good-natured and chatty, he would entertain us as he drove. True stories, gigantic whoppers, or funny gossip, it was all fair game to that man.
