Police Chief Retires, City Manager Fired

Johnny Jump, who served one year as City Manager for the City of Coalgate, was fired by the Coalgate City Council during an emergency meeting held the evening of March 8. He was hired February 28, 2022.

Congressman to Visit Coalgate Friday

U.S. Congressman Josh Brecheen will host a town hall meeting in Coalgate on Friday, March 17. The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Coal County Library, 115 W. Ohio. All citizens, regardless of party affiliation, are invited to attend and share their thoughts and ask questions on policy issues impacting Washington, D.C. and Oklahoma.

Funeral services for Carrie Gayle (Ott) Salinas, a Coalgate resident, will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate, OK. Interment will be in Lonestar Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements. Family night is Thursday evening, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Service to be Held for Twyla Gaile Lawrence

Twyla Gaile Lawrence passed away March 9, 2023. She was born September 16, 1935 to Hulet Thomas Rice, Sr. and Rebecca Ruth (Hall) Rice. Gaile was the baby of 9 children. She married Perry Joe Hefley in June 1956. Their daughter Cathy was born in 1958. Gaile then married Clayton”Buddy” Lawrence in December 1977. He passed away 5 years later.

Chet Michael Barnett is the son of Shad and Brandy Barnett of Coalgate and the grandson of Don Battles of Coalgate, Kathy Battles of Holdenville, and Paula Powell of Lehigh. He has two brothers, Chay and Chap, and one sister Chellye. Chet has attended Coalgate Schools for five years and is a member of the Wildcat football and powerlifting teams. His hobbies include hunting. Chet is escorted by his parents, Shad and Brandy Barnett.
