2023 Coalgate Homecoming

Flower Girl Layla Renee Seals is the daughter of Alicia Murphy of Coalgate and Savante Seals of Durant and the granddaughter of Norma Murphy of Coalgate, Jim Pothoff of Coalgate, and Melissa and Ray Seals of Durant. She has five siblings: Nevaeh and Devon Parker of Coalgate, Rylee, Savante Jr., and Kyrie Seals of Durant. Layla has attended Coalgate Schools for two years. Her activities include going to her bubba and sissy’s games. Her hobbies include playing dress up, swimming, and taking care of all her baby dolls. Her future plans are to play softball like her sissy, be a cheerleader, and to one day be a teacher. Layla is escorted by crown bearer Jett Michael Griffin.

A 52-year-old Lewisville, TX, man accused of stealing gas at a Kaiser-Francis Oil Co. compressor station in Coal County claimed he was a U.S. Secret Service Agent who was taking samples of the oil, not stealing it. The compressor station is located on SH 31 in the northern part of the county.

Yarbrough Pleads Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has announced that 45-year-old Ronald Wayne Yarbrough, Jr. of Lehigh has entered a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of his stepfather, 66-year-old Robert Earl “Bob” Stevens. A probable cause affidavit filed in November 2022 by Choctaw Tribal Police Investigator Matt Barreras states that Choctaw Tribal Police were dispatched to Coal County General Hospital on Thanksgiving Day regarding a stabbing victim. Upon arrival at the hospital, hospital staff advised officers that Stevens had died due to an apparent stab wound to the neck.
