Funeral services for Michael Ray Darst, a lifelong Atoka, OK resident, except for a little time he lived in California, will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka, OK with Rev. Bob Dezasher officiating. Burial will be in Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Darst was born November 10, 1952 to Clifford Darst and Nellie Kennedy at Durant, OK and passed away January 18, 2025 at Denison, TX at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 8 days.

Michael attended school and graduated from Tulare Union High School in Tulare, CA. He was a plant operator for Latimore Materials in Stringtown, OK for 17 years and also did carpentry work, was a police office for Atoka PD and also a deputy for Atoka Sheriff’s Office.

Michael married Margaret Rebecca (Maxey) on May 15, 1980 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated 35 years of marriage before her passing on November 15, 2015. Michael was of the Pentecostal faith. He attended The Gospel Lighthouse in Kiowa. Michael enjoyed reading, fishing, working, watching football, building, working on cars, preaching the Bible and teaching his kids and grandkids about the Lord.

Survivors include his children, Robbie Mishell Gass and husband Mark, Renitta Kay Morgan and husband Brian, Shane Campbell and wife Alysha all of Atoka; grandchildren, Sarah Wilson and husband Bryar, Jessica Morgan all of Atoka, Kelsie McAfee and husband T. J. of Lehigh, Brittney Morgan of Atoka, Brandy Morgan of Caney, Oakley Gass and wife Makala, Haden Gass and wife Hope all of Atoka, Haley Dixon and husband Kolton of Caddo, Hunter Gass of Norman and Cort Campbell of Atoka; great grandchildren, Wrekin and Bannon, Chaytin, Dodie and Darcie Wilson, Rhett and Everlee Willis, Whitley and Lincoln McAfee, Braxton Rinehart, Eliana Griffith, Blakeleigh, Brynleigh and Bryleigh Gass, Graycen and Beau Dixon, James Cooper, Oakley Gass and Kane Campbell; stepmother, Jewel Darst of Duncan, formerly of Atoka; brothers, Walter R. B. Darst of Burney, CA, Sam Darst and wife Linda of Duncan, Doc Darst and wife Arlinda of Antlers; sisters, Glenda “Sissy” Carnefix of Pea Ridge, AR, Vonda Miller of Duncan, Trelia Heise of Sherman, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Darst; mother Nellie Kennedy Wilhite; father Clifford Darst, brother, Doyle “Buck” Ray Woods; and numerous other special loved ones.

Casketbearers will be Oakley Gass, Haden Gass, Hunter Gass, Cort Campbell, Jon Bryar Wilson, Tob Ladner, Chris Wellis, Wrekin Wilson.
