Joyce Darnell Lewis

Funeral services for Joyce Darnell Lewis, a lifelong Atoka resident, were held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Atoka with Bro, Jim Lewis, Bro. Steve Henry and Bro. Cecil Lewis, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Green Meadows Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lewis was born September 13, 1941 to James Andrew and Lillie Lorena (Brewer) Morris in Atoka County and passed away March 20, 2024 at Durant, OK at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days. She graduated from Tushka High School and married Cecil Ray Lewis, June 8, 1963 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated nearly 61 years together before her passing. Joyce was a loyal employee at Ameristate Bank in Atoka for 45 years, starting out as a teller and working her way up to loan secretary. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Joyce enjoyed singing, writing, playing basketball with her kids, growing flowers, especially pink roses, teaching Sunday School, bookkeeping and church treasurer for over 45 years and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Ray Lewis of the home in Atoka; daughter, Brenda Lewis Rackley and husband Robert of Newella, OK; sons, Cecil Lewis, Jr. and wife Rita of Claremore, OK and Jim Lewis and wife Amanda of Atoka; grandchildren, Cameron Lewis and wife Tiffany of Verdigris, OK, Matthew Rackley and wife Shalane of Oklahoma City, Aaron Lewis and wife Emily, Ethan Lewis and wife Alexis all of Durant, OK, Cathyrn Lewis of Claremore and Zachary Lewis of Atoka, OK; greatgranddaughters, Kimberlynn Rackley and Hayley who is on the way; brother and sisterin- law, Jerry and Quina Lewis of Durant; special nieces and nephews, Janie, Maranda, Mark, Mareshah, and Marah; along with other nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear and loved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Andrew and Lillie Lorena (Brewer) Morris; brothers and sisters, Lucille Mills, Evelyn Smith, Ray Morris, Geraldine Morris and Mary Henderson; Inlaws, Neoma and Robert ‘Bob” Lewis; daughter-inlaw, Lisa Lewis; along with other brother and sisters-inlaw and other relatives.

Casketbearers were Cameron Lewis, Matthew Rackley,AaronLewis,Ethan Lewis, Zachary Lewis, and Mark Henderson. Honorary bearers were Lester Moore, Charles McCall Sr., Clinton Thurman, Silas Henry Jr., Roy Henry, Richard Campbell, Frankie Hunt, Rick Fitcher and Bill Roberson.
