Dr. Larry Carlton Key

Funeral services for Dr. Larry Carlton Key, a Lane resident, will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Coalgate with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Family night is Thursday evening 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mr. Key was born January 24, 1938 to Lafayette John Paul and Leola May (Freeman) Key at Valley Mills, TX and passed away January 16, 2023 at Coalgate at the age of 84 years, 11 months ad 23 days. He graduated from San Rafael High School and received his Doctorate Degree in Education Administration from Utah State University. Dr. Key worked in Education Administration, was a singer/song writer, Master Carpenter, project director for the McGee Creek Project, Administrator at the Coalgate Hospital and owned Scobbo’s Restaurant in Atoka. Dr. Key married Sharon Irene Evenson May 29, 2019 at San Marcos, TX. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed football, dancing, gardening, fishing and hunting. Dr. Key enjoyed eating, especially chocolate. He loved listening to music and was in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Irene Key of Coalgate; children, Karroll Kay and wife Stephanie of Round Rock, TX, Sherri Cochran and husband Danny of Lane, OK, Teresa Poore of Houston, TX, Paula Abla and husband Pat of Eufaula, OK, Sheila Begley of Houston, TX and Kris Simonson and wife Amy of Coalgate; grandchildren, Taylor, Sydney Major and Ashlynn Kay, Jed, Caleb, Micah, Laramie and Reagan Cochran, Madison, Kayla and Jackilyn Poore, Randal and Adrian Lillard, Jozey, Alex, and Hunter Begley, Dominick and Caleb Simonson, Clifton Hill, Chance Wilson, Amber Padilla, Celeste Moralez and Brandy Johnston; sisters, Wanda Young and husband Gene of California, Peggy Key of North Carolina,; sister-in-law, Sharon Key of Redding, CA; mother of his children, Myrna Bailey of Eufaula, OK; along with numeorus nieces, nephews, cousins and many dearly loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafayettte John Paul and Leola May (Freeman) Key; brother, Jerry Key and son-in-law, Darrin Begley.

Casketbearers will be Jed Cochran, Caleb Cochran, Micah Cochran, Randahl Lillard, Dominick Simonson and Caleb Simonson.
