Our sympathy is extended to the family of John Phillip Wood

Funeral services for John Phillip Wood, a Coalgate resident, were held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Coalgate with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial was in the Wood Family Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Phillip was born September 12, 1937 to William Jr. and Katherine (Nesbitt) Wood at Pauls Valley, OK and passed away January 13, 2023 at Oklahoma City at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 1 day. He graduated from Coalgate High School in the Class of 1955. Phillip owned and operated Phillip Wood Refrigeration for over 60 years and was a rancher. He married Brenda Bunch on April 14, 1983 at Coalgate and they enjoyed 39 wonderful years together. Phillip was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Coalgate. He served on the Coal County Livestock Board and Coal County Fair Board. He enjoyed going to auctions and watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball and show at Livestock Shows. His most cherished times were spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Wood of the home in Coalgate; children, Marc Wood of Tulsa, OK, Melodi Kay Burns and husband Danny of Pittsburg, OK, Mary Suezann Allen and husband Doug of Atoka, OK, Larry Jacob McKeen-Wood of Coalgate, Rebecca Sue Atkinson and husband Jamie of Big Springs, TX, John Ross Wood and wife Tori and Megan Katherine Wood, all of Coalgate; grandchildren, Jennifer, Sheena, Faith, Misti and Gary, Zack and Jessica, Mandy and Carl, Jerrard, Phillip, David, Laura, Samantha, Brycen,Ansley,Harper, Cody, Brooklynn, Chase, Kayleigh, Carlee, Jayce, Riggin and Ryder; great-grandchildren, Nathanial, Andrew, Ethan, Niles, Daphne, Lillith, Cindy, Chloe, Maggie, Cooper, Jet, Chassen, Asher, Jaden, Marley, Jagger, Ayden, River, Hunter, Tyler, Peyton, Wyatt, Brayden, Serenity, Wyatt, Jaxon, Hayden, Jayden, Ruger, Chaedyn and one on the way; one greatgreat- grandchild on the way; brother, William Don Wood and wife Debby of Coalgate, OK; cousin/sister, Jahree Vaughn of Coalgate; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of dearly loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katherine (Nesbitt) Wood; sons, William Henry Wood and Phillip Don Wood; and grandsons, Ransom Smithart-Wood and Riley Cottrell.

Casketbearers were Zachary Hunt, Gary Crawley, Phillip Taylor Allen, Jerrad Allen, Brycen McKeen, Carl Crites, David Wood, Cody Bowen, and Chase Bowen. Honorary bearers were Jay Pasquali, Joe Pasquali, Brett Sterling, Nick Lee, James Elkins, John Stewart, Phillip Helms, Rick Chaney, Bob Cody, and Ted Hartsfield.
