Funeral services for James Woodrow Gwinn of Moore, OK were held Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Lynlee Mae Chapel in Moore, OK with Pastor Mitchell Davidson officiating and speaker, Doc Gwinn. Final resting place was Moore Cemetery in Moore. James “Jim”

James “Jim” Gwinn, age 78, passed away from this life to began his eternal life in Heaven on May 12, 2022. James was born in Coalgate to Woodrow and Wanda Gwinn on October 25, 1943. He grew up in Coal County and attended school in Clarita. Jim was a sheet metal worker who worked for several companies over the years, even owning and operating his own sheet metal company for a time. He retired - several times - because he simply enjoyed working. Jim was never one to sit still for very long.

Jim was always on the go. He was an active member of Life Tabernacle Church in Moore, and enjoyed attending services there. He had an incredible work ethic and was handy in so many ways. He enjoyed doing home improvement projects, planting gardens, and building things with his hands. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, always lighting up anytime someone told him a funny story.

Jim came from a long line of very talented musicians, and from the time he was a youngster he loved Bluegrass music and enjoyed playing the fiddle and guitar. His number one hobby, though, was fishing, fishing and more fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trips to the lake, hunting trips, and around the house had a green thumb and loved tending to his many gardens. He was a terrific gardener, and if it had a seed, Jim could grow it.

He absolutely loved sports, keeping up with OU football and Thunder basketball; and when it came to baseball, he was always a Yankees fan. He was also his son Tony’s baseball coach.

More than anything in life, he cherished spending time with his family. The Gwinns were a close-knit bunch, and if they weren’t enjoying each other’s company at home, they were either out at the lake or at the ball field. Jim will be remembered by his family and friends as a funny, kind, respectable gentleman with a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Pallbearers were John Davidson, Shane Davidson, Kent Davidson, Paul Lancaster, Jerry Beal, Rick Mowdy and Daniel Vick. Honorary bearers were Mack Davidson and Steven Samsel.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma J. Gwinn; a son, Tony Gwinn of Del City; his parents, Woodrow Wilson Gwinn and Wanda Jean Davidson Gwinn of Coalgate; one sister, Lou Vick of Coalgate; sister-in-law, Kay Gwinn; and brothers-in-law, Reece Carl Vick and Jesse Mowdy, all of Coalgate.

Left behind to treasure his memory are his daughter, Gina Samsel and husband Steven of Moore; two granddaughters, Torre and Mickie, and three step-grandchildren, Lacey, Katie and Joey; daughter-in-law, Valary Gwinn of Del City; two granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah; his four siblings, Doc Gwinn and wife Diane of Durant, Dave Gwinn, Roger Gwinn and wife Teena, and Nadine Mowdy, all of Coalgate; along with many loving nieces, nephews cousins and dear friends.
