Service today for Betty Jo Young
Graveside services for Betty Jo (Burleson) Young, a Coalgate resident, were held Wednesday (today) May 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Coalgate Cemetery with Pastor David Unsell officiating. Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate was in charge of arrangements.
M r s . Young was born October 26, 1931 to Lem Arvard and Martha Frances (Walker) Burleson at Coalgate and passed away May 25, 2020 at Coalgate at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 29 days. She attended Bethel and Coalgate Schools and married Arthur “Dushie” Young on January 27, 1947 in Ada, OK. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2001.
Betty was a bus driver for 38 years for Coalgate Public Schools. She was the first female bus driver in the state of Oklahoma. Betty also drove her husband’s dump truck from time to time. She was a devoted Pentecostal Christian and enjoyed cooking, canning and watching her grandchildren. Betty loved arrowhead hunting and fishing but her greatest treasure was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Joe Young and wife Carolyn of Atoka, June Oliphant of Wetumka, OK, Sally Wiggins, Sherry Loudermilk and husband Chuck, Donna Robson, all of Coalgate and Tommie Armstrong and husband Brian of Eagletown, OK; 21 grandchildren, Timothy Young and wife Paula of Poteau, OK, Tanda Smith and husband Jason Coalgate, Brandon Young and wife Britton of Sicily, Italy, Angela Nix of OKC, Jason Nix of Holdenville, Leesa Roscoe and husband Chris of Choctaw, Amy Nix of Wetumka, Kevin Wiggins and wife Brook of Blue Ridge, TX, Krissie Haney and husband Kevin, Kody Wiggins and wife Sarah, Shera Loudermilk and Matt Grant all of Coalgate, Sierra Loudermilk and Damon Krebs of Tupelo, Shay Loudermilk of Calvin, Leslie Battles and husband Dustin, Lori Robson and Jerry Davis, Tommy Robson and wife Katie, TyAnna Adams and husband Dustin all of Coalgate, Katy Farley and Derek Jamison, Trapper Farley, Gunner Farley all of Eagletown, OK and Caleb Armstrong of Moyers, OK; forty-three great-grandchildren with two on the way; sisters, Mary Eddings of Coalgate and Martha Graham and husband George of Noble, OK; brother-in-law Willie Osborne of Ada, OK; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sons-in-law David Wiggins, Randy Robson and James Oliphant.
Grandsons served as casketbearers.
