Service held for Roy Eugene Sweeten

Funeral services for Roy Eugene Sweeten, a longtime Lehigh resident, were held Monday, August 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor Joey Lansdale officiating. Burial was in Lehigh Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sweeten was born June 11, 1936 to Fred and Lacey (Johnson) Sweeten at Wesley, OK and passed away July 31, 2019 at Coalgate at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 20 days. He attended Wesley and Lehigh Schools and married Carolyn Jo Jones on July 29, 1972 at Atoka Nazarene Church. Roy was a ranch hand for the Mayers’ Ranch and enjoyed fishing, gardening, working with flowers and loved his children.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jo (Jones) Sweeten of the home; daughter, Teresa Ginden and husband, Steve of Phillips, OK; grandson, Robert Ginden and wife, Shelli of Atoka, OK; great-grandchildren, Chaini Hunt and Clayson “Bear” Ginden both of Atoka, OK; sisters, Nadene Donnelly of Coalgate and Minnie Repass of McAlester; nieces and nephews, Gerald Sweeten, Craig Sweeten, Peggy Sweeten, all of Durant, Michael Repass of McAlester, Ann Cathey of Lehigh, and Dosha Sanders of Ardmore, OK; along with other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Junior Sweeten, Berthel Sweeten and Lowell Sweeten; sister, Izetta Estes; and niece, Carolyn LeFlore.

Casketbearers were Danny West, Robert Ginden, Mike Hensley, Gerald Sweeten, Mark Sanders, and Mike Repass. Honorary bearers were Lynn Calvert, Tom Mayer, Craig Sweeten, and Velton Caldwell.
