Edna Evelene McCollum

Funeral services for Edna Evelene (Batchelor) McCollum, a longtime Coalgate resident, were held Friday, March 8, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor David Unsell officiating. Burial was in Woodman Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mrs. McCollum was born October 20, 1933 to Clarence and Dovie Stella (Rainey) Batchelor at Parker, Coal county, OK and passed away March 5, 2019 at Coalgate, OK at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 13 days. She attended Coalgate Schools and was a homemaker and a clerk at Price’s Boot Shop for 17 years, retiring in 2011. Edna married Leon Arvard McCollum on November 12, 1947 in Atoka, OK. He preceded in death in 1994 in McAlester, OK. Edna enjoyed crocheting, sewing and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a son, Randy McCollum of Coalgate; son-in-law, Roger Barnes and fiance, Mary Jo Massie of Coalgate, OK; daughter-in-law, Naomi “Tootie” McCollum of Coalgate; grandchildren, Shazette Priest of Newalla, OK, J. W. Barnes and wife, Amanda of Salt Prairie, OK, Carminia Magby and husband Phillip of Coalgate, Miranda Elkins and husband Randy of Coalgate, Amanda Freas and husband Bryan of Paradise, TX, John McCollum and wife Rachael of Coalgate, Sara Stevenson and Ray Farmer of Coalgate; great-grandchildren, Crey Maxey and wife Morgan, Justin Maxey and wife Reegan, Jayce Barnes, Brayden Barnes, Ethan Magby, Kaden Magby, Kylie Magby, Kolten Magby, Chelsey Brooks, Chareth Brooks, Nicholas Freas and Rachel Hightower, Amara McCollum, Shalyn McCollum, Brody McCollum, Abigail Stevenson and Adyson Stevenson; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney Freas, Abel Freas, Hadley Freas, Amirah Maxey, Issac Maxey, Zahra Maxey and Preston Maxey; sister, Bette Price and husband James of Coalgate; cousins, Ronnie Rainey and children and Debbie Southern and children; along with numerous other relatives and many dear friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence “Sam” Monroe and Dovie Stella (Rainey) Batchelor; husband, Leon Arvard McCollum; children, Linda Elaine Barnes and Patrick Hurley McCollum; siblings, Leomia “Oma Lee” Phipps, Bessie “Belle” Jones, Francis “Son” Batchelor, Melvin Lee Batchelor, Delma Lee “Dink” Dillingham, and Toleta Louise Hart.

Casketbearers were Joel Vandruff, Joe Maxey, Andrew Price, Rusty Price, Dustin Battles, Jaycen Allison. Honorary bearers were Jeffrey Borden, Del Juan Foreman and Louis Coleman.
