Sybel Ailene Cometti

Services are pending at Brown’s Funeral Service in Coalgate for Sybel Ailene Cometti, a Coalgate resident.

Mrs. Cometti was born September 8, 1940 to Harry Archie and Bertha Mae (Cunningham) Barnes at Coalgate and passed away July 27, 2021 in Coal County at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 19 days.

She graduated Grants High School in New Mexico in 1958 and married Charles William Cometti July 24, 1957. They had 64 wonderful years together. Sybil was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Coalgate. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and making floral arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Charles William Cometti of the home in Coalgate; daughter, Sherry Diane Duran of Coalgate; sons, Charles William Cometti, Jr. and wife Debbie of Roswell, NM and James Douglas Cometti and wife Melissa of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Barbara Rind of Hobbs, NM; brothers, Archie Leon Barnes of Grants, NM and Roger Barnes and wife Mary Jo of Coalgate; grandchildren, Neal Duran and wife Tori, Leah Francis and husband Jake all of CO, Andrew Duran of MO, Brandon Cometti and wife Emily of NM, Payton Cometti and wife Casey of WY, Dylan Cometti of NM and Jessica Yates of ID; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Archie and Bertha Mae (Cunningham) Barnes; brother, James Harold Barnes and sister, Cleo Sallee.
