Service Thursday for Minnie Ruth Newberry

Funeral services for Minnie Ruth (Thompson) Newberry, a Coalgate resident, will be Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Richard Magby officiating, assisted by Bobby Thompson. Burial will be in Wardville Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Newberry was born July 16, 1933 to Mack and Minnie (Shipman) Thompson near Wardville, OK and passed away November 8, 2021 at Oklahoma City at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 23 days. She attended Limestone Gap School and graduated in 1951. Ruth was an outstanding basketball player and was awarded a scholarship to attend college in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Ruth married a former teacher, Lee R. Newberry in May, 1951. Lee later became a Baptist preacher. The couple had two children, Brenda and Keniard. Their children had cystic fibrosis. Ruth became a full-time caregiver, minister’s wife and housewife. Brenda died in 1958, Keniard in 1987 and Lee in 1955. Ruth held several jobs from 1995 to 2000 at the Mary Hurley Hospital and Coalgate Courthouse until she became secretary/ receptionist at Cottonwood School in 2000. She was employed there for 21 years. Ruth had many talents such as interior design, fashion and was a faithful friend to many.

Survivors include a special nephew, Bob and wife Wanda Thompson; special niece, Carol Martin; godson Brett Burns; second family, Melva Thomas and children, Sonya Holliday, Lana Thomas, Greg Thomas and Mark Thomas; special friends, Susan Eddings, Superintendent John Daniel, Charley DeWitt and Roy Vanderburg.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Minnie (Shipman) Thompson; husband, Lee R. Newberry; children, Brenda Jo and Keniard Lee; sisters, Nora Lee O’Toole, and Sarah Magdelene (Maggie) Kiediasch; brothers, Norman, Mark, James and N. Y. Thompson; and nephew, Ronnie Thompson.

Casketbearers will be Randy Thompson, Kirk Thompson, Neal Thompson, Mark Thompson, Alwin Kiedaisch, Jimmy Newberry, Steven Newberry, Richard Newberry, Jeff Newberry and Kevin Newberry.
