Service held for Thelma Jewell Butler
Funeral services for Thelma Jewell (Griffin) Butler, a Coalgate resident, were held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Pastor David Unsell officiating. Burial was in Woodman Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate.
Thelma was born November 29, 1941 to John and Myrtle Sylvia (Masters) Griffin at Wichita Falls, TX and passed away March 1, 2020 at Coalgate at the age of 78 years 3 months and 3 days. She attended Idabel schools and worked for many years in housekeeping at the Ruth Wilson Hurley Manor. Thelma enjoyed cooking, puzzles, dancing, cleaning, fishing and playing the slots at the Stringtown Casino. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include daughters, Ginger Butler and Louis German of Idabel, OK Michelle Bowline of Coalgate; brother, Jerry Griffin of Tecumseh, OK; sister, Naomi McCollum of Coalgate; grandchildren, Lakendra Ricks, Kenneth Ricks, Chrissy Cantrell and husband Ikey, April Murphy, Megan Murphy, Daniel Stocks, Harlee Bowline; sixteen great-grandchildren; nephews, John McCollum and wife Rachael of Coalgate, Ryan Griffin and wife Christina of Tecumseh, OK, Lyndell Masters, Ronnie Masters, both of Pratt, KS; nieces, Sarah Stevenson and fiance’ Ray Farmer of Coalgate, Dee Ann Webber of Sawyer, KS; great nephews, Brody McCollum, Jasper Griffin, Mason Griffin; great nieces, Amara McCollum, Shalyn McCollum, Abigail Stevenson, Adyson Stevenson, Haley Griffin; son-in-law, Johnie Holt of Idabel, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Billy “Pee Wee” Bowline; daughter, Becky Griffin; brothers, Butch Griffin, Max Ray Masters; granddaughter Shareka Ricks; brother-in-law, Patrick McCollum; sister-in-law, Tresha Griffin.
Casketbearers were David Holt, Corky Acosta, Ray Farmer, Chad Ratcliff, Phillip Magby and John Spangler. Honorary casketbearers were Roy Deck, Lewis German, Edgar Buchanan, Preston Cole, Arthur Buckley and Robert Buckley.
