Service held for Roy Dean Ward

Roy Dean Ward, age 69, a Stuart, OK resident formerly a longtime Coal County resident, was born on Saturday, January 31, 1953, to Johnny Carden “J.C.” and Waunella (Hedgecock) Ward, at Coalgate, OK. Roy passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at Oklahoma City, OK.

R o y attended school at Coalgate and then Antlers High School. He was an owner/operator for Ward Concrete. He married Kerri Shields on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Atoka, OK. Roy attended the Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, loved to watch football, especially OU, basketball, softball and loved trapping, especially bobcats.

Roy is survived by his wife, Kerri Ward of the home in Stuart, OK; daughters, Rebecca Wetendorf and husband Trey of Midland, TX, Mary Cynthia Ward of Collinsville, OK; son, Colton Dean Ward and wife Sarah of Bodcaw, AR; stepchildren, Marcedes Johnson of Atoka, OK, Montana Johnson and wife Chelsey of Atoka, OK, Bobby Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK, Tyreke Johnson of Durant, OK;

Grandchildren, Cheslea Elizabeth Ward of Luther, OK, Savannah Maxine Ward of Bartlesville, OK, Isabelle Cynthia Martin of Tulsa, OK, Conner Douglas Goetz of Midland, TX, Kennedy Ann Goetz of Midland, TX, Levi Braxton Dean Ward of Bodcaw, AR, Luke Alexander Ward of Bodcaw, AR, Lincoln Maxwell Ward of Bodcaw, AR, Coner Hobbie of Atoka, OK, Jailyn Johnson of Atoka, OK, Mallorie Johnson of Atoka, OK, Malayah Johnson of Atoka, OK, Carter Johnson of Atoka, OK; greatgrandchildren, Harper, Aeline, Nevan, Valdez, Noah Valdez;

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny “J.C.” and Waunella (Hedgecock) Ward; brothers, Kelly Wayne Ward, Stanley Ray Ward.

Family night was held Tuesday, June 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka, OK. Funeral services for Roy were held Wednesday, June 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka, OK, with brothers Danny Ward and Johnny Ward officiating.

Casketbearers were Arnold Patton, Dewayne Cliff, Jimmy McNeelis, Rocky Fink, Wes Duffield, and Mike Miller. Honorary bearers were grandsons Levi, Lincoln, Luke, Coner, Conner, and Carter.

Roy’s final resting place will be in McCurtain County, OK, near Broken Bow.
