Service held for Mahala McDaniel

Funeral services for Maudie Mahala (Daffin) McDaniel, a lifelong Atoka resident, were held Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Cecil Mackey officiating. Burial was in McDaniel Family Cemetery in Blackjack, OK with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McDaniel was born July 3, 1926 to Eurira Ishmael and Ann (Wood) Daffin at Blackjack, OK and passed away August 10, 2020 at Coalgate at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 7 days. She attended Bentley, Blackjack, Chilocco Indian Schools and graduated from Atoka High School in 1944. Mahala was a seamstress for Blue Bell. She married Chub McDaniel January 9, 1945 at Atoka. He preceded her in death. Mahala was a member of Blackjack Baptist Church and loved to cook. (She was famous for her yeast rolls.) She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Alvanell Morris and husband Johnny, Chock McDaniel and wife Veronica, all of Blackjack, Lola Irion and husband Bill of Harmony, OK, Phil McDaniel and wife Joyce of Lane, OK; sister, Ruie June Langford of Round Rock, TX; brother, Charles Daffin; daughter-in-law, Vicki McDaniel of Stillwater, OK; grandchildren, Alva Massey and wife Alisha of Asheboro, NC, Melissa Denton and husband Mikey of Owasso, OK, Valerie Phillips and husband Cody of Stillwater, Keith Capps and wife Deanna of Tushka, Rocky McDaniel, Kimberly Seay and husband Jason all of Durant, Travis McDaniel and wife Jessica of Coalgate, Jennifer Waggoner and husband Alvis, Sarah Beth Bryant and husband Wacey all of Blackjack; Kristen Fletcher of Atoka and Jessica Hemphill of Coalgate; twenty-six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ish and Ann Daffin; step-mother, Ameita Crawford; sons, Charles McDaniel, Ruel McDaniel; granddaughter, Rona Cavender; niece, Julia Cole and daughter-in-law, Jan McDaniel.

Casketbearers were Tommy Richardson, Ditters Cole, Danny Witt, Mike Golden, Chuck Carroll, and Roger Leuty. Honorary bearers were Rocky McDaniel, Travis McDaniel, Keith Capps, Darwin Beck, David Hauff, and Luke Alberda.
