Our Sympathies extended to the families of... Service held for Peggy Ann Owens

Funeral services for Peggy Ann Owens, a longtime Atoka, OK resident, were held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Atoka with Shane Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Bentley Cemetery in Bentley, OK with Brown’s Funeral Service of Atoka in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Owens was born January 13, 1945 to Harlis and Opal (Givens) Deaton at Atoka, OK and passed away November 15, 2020 at Coalgate at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 2 days. She attended school in California but moved home and graduated from Atoka High School. Peggy married Wayne Owens May 26, 1962 at Iron Stob in Atoka and they celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage this year. She worked as a CNA at Atoka, Coalgate and Caddo nursing home and was a longtime Pentecostal, was a member of Blackjack Baptist Church for several years and was also a member of the Atoka Trail Riders. Peggy’s world revolved around her grandchildren and she was always cheering them on and encouraging them in everything they did.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Owens of the home in Blackjack, OK; daughters, Teresa Owens of Blackjack, Karen Custar and husband Justin of Sharon, OK and Carla Douglas and husband Charlie of Blackjack; grandchildren, Jaren Custar of Woodward, OK, John Custar of Eufaula, OK, Justin Custar and wife Haley of Weatherford, OK, Haley Gipson and husband Mark of Konawa, OK, Chase Douglas and Chance Douglas, both of Blackjack; Great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and another on the way, Peyton and Paxton and Carter; sisters, Linda Goff and husband Rufus “Sonny” of Atoka, Betty Griffin, Phyllis Collins, both of Florida; brother, Mark Deaton of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harlis and Opal (Givens) Deaton; granddaughter Shannon Douglas and inlaws, Woodrow and Callie Owens.

Casketbearers were John Custar, Justin Custar, Chase Douglas, Chance Douglas, Charles Douglas, and Justin Custar, Sr.
