Our sympathies extended to the families of.... Doris Jean Webb

Funeral services for Doris Jean (Hancock) Webb, a Coalgate resident, will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. James McKellips officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, February 25, 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Webb was born June 28, 1933 to A. L. Hancock, Sr. and Pauline Pearl (Childress) Hancock on Polk Road in Coal County (Lucille Polk named her). She passed away February 20, 2021 at Coalgate at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 23 days. Doris attended and graduated from Coalgate High School and attended East Central University where she received her LPN license. She married William Houston Webb on March 3, 1958 in Coalgate. They celebrated 58 wonderful years together before his passing on June 17, 2016. Doris worked at Mary Hurley Hospital when it opened in 1964. She worked 27 years, retiring in 1991. She also worked for Ruth Wilson Hurley Manor, Home Health and private care, taking care of Thelma Pope and Yvonne Newberry until their passing. Doris owned and operated Mother Goose Daycare and a snow cone stand. She was a very hardworking lady and took pride in her work. Doris loved her roses, decorating cakes, gambling, casinos, reading and watching old westerns.

Survivors include her daughter, Betti Roberts and husband Eugene of Coalgate; sister-in-law, Beverly Hancock of Florida; nieces, Tammy Hedgecock and husband Lanny, Kathy Battles, all of Coalgate and Stacy Farrow and husband Damon of Ft. Lucy, FL; granddaughter, Sky Dawn Stevens and husband Justin Ables of McAlester; great-grandchildren, Noah Gregor, Luke Avery and Able Avery; along with other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A. L. Hancock, Sr. and Pauline Pearl (Childress) Hancock; husband, William Houston Webb; brother, A. L. Hancock, Jr.; sister, Helen Marie (Hancock) Battles; and grandson, Jesse Houston Stevens.
