Mary Jane English
Funeral services for Mary Jane English, a longtime Coalgate resident, was held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Coalgate Methodist Church with Pastor Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.
Mrs.Englishwas born on May 21, 1946, to Homer Cecil and Lillian Onita (Bigford) Haney, at Olney, Oklahoma. She passed away on January 24, 2025, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 3 days. Mary attended Clarita and Olney Schools and graduated from Olney High School in the Class of 1964. She married Robert “Bob” Wayne English on August 12, 1967, at the Coalgate United Methodist Church. They celebrated 50 years together before his passing on February 18, 2018. She was a teacher’s aide at Coalgate Public Schools for many years before retiring. Mary was a member of the Coalgate Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, doing embroidery, working crossword puzzles and watching the Game Show Network. Her favorite flowers were irises. Mary supported her children with their cattle and enjoyed going to their cattle shows. She truly loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Jerry English and wife Miranda and Karen Guinn and husband Tim all of Coalgate, OK; grandchildren, Aaron Guinn, Taylor English, Logan English and Cole Robert English; siblings, Glen Haney and wife Sandra of Ada, OK, Frances Thompson and husband Charles of Clarita, OK, George Haney and wife Ione and Kenny Haney all of Coalgate, OK; sister-in-law, Nancy Shirley of Coalgate, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Cecil and Lillian Onita (Bigford) Haney; husband, Robert “Bob” English; brothers, Joe Bob Haney and Dana Haney and sister-in-law, Jeannie Haney.
Casketbearers were Aaron Guinn, Kevin Haney, Keith Haney, Jack Shirley, Allen Chapman, Jeremy Layman. Serving as honorary casketbearers were Ted Hartsfield, Charles Thompson, Lonnie Williams, Charles Canida, Wayne Blue, Vince Haney, Roy Odis Campbell, Gerald Brice, Ernie Fanning, Dewayne Miles and ______ Woods.
