John Frank Gerhards

Funeral services for John Frank Gerhards, a Coalgate resident, were held Monday, October 12, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Coalgate with Father Jovita Okonkwo officiating. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gerhards was born May 30, 1937 to John and Leona (McNulty) Gerhards at Guthrie, OK and passed away October 9, 2020 at his home in Coalgate at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 9 days. He attended Guthrie High School, graduating in 1955. John went on to further his education and attended Okmulgee Tech receiving an Associates Degree in Air Conditioning. He married Laura June Welty November 22, 1955 in Guthrie, OK and she preceded him in death June 24, 2016. John worked as a project manager at TD Industries in Dallas, TX. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Coalgate and loved hunting, fishing, working on vehicles, tinkering around on the land, watching westerns and reloading shot gun shells.

Survivors include his children, John Franks Gerhards, Jr. and wife Marion of Porum, OK, Michael Eugene Gerhards of Lewisville, TX, Jewel Gerhards of Coalgate, OK and Theresa Dise of Tom Bean, TX; grandchildren, Preston Dise and wife Lacey of Houston, TX snd Alicia Dise of Tom Bean, TX; great-grandchildren, Micha Mechling of Houston, TX, Ryleigh Harrison of Tom Bean, TX and Preisleigh Dise of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leona (McNulty) Gerhards, and sister, Mary Jane Sloan.

Casketbearers were John Gerhards, Preston Dise, Micha Mechling, Chief Roebuck, Kirk Tanner, and Tom Mayer. Honorary bearer was Gardener Wayne Welty.
