Coal County Sheriff’s Report
Lehigh man arrested for possession of marijuana
A 40-year-old Lehigh faces a misdemeanor drug charge after he allegedly discarded a baggie of marijuana beside a roadway.
Deputy Jacob Peebles said he was patrolling in Lehigh shortly after midnight on December 20 when he spotted a man walking south on Hwy. 75 “through the shadows” of vacant buildings and then turn east onto 1st Street.
Peebles said when the pedestrian noticed the patrol unit, he immediately dropped a glove and a clear plastic baggie and then bent over to get the glove and began scooting his feet along the grass.
Peebles said he made contact with the man about 25 yards from where the man had dropped the glove and baggie. He told the deputy he had just left his sister’s house across town and was headed home. When questioned about dropping the plastic baggie, he denied dropping anything except a glove.
The officer located the dropped baggie, which contained a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana. When Peebles asked the man if he had dropped it in hopes that he wouldn’t find it, the man responded yes.
Timothy L. Yarbrough, 40, was taken into custody and transported to the Coal County jail. He has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor possession of controlled dangerous substance and is scheduled to return to court on January 18. He was released from custody on $1,000 bond.
