Memorial services for Clarence Ray “Sonny” Worley were held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Univesity Parish in Norman, OK.
Clarence Ray ‘Sonny’ Worley, age 87, of Norman, passed away on March 1, 2024. He was born August 14, 1936, in Bromide, Oklahoma, to Willis and Lucille Worley.
He attended grade school in Bromide, Coalgate, and Lehigh, Oklahoma. He graduated from Coalgate High School in 1954, where he was president of both the juniorandseniorclasses as well as playing football and baseball. Upon graduation from Coalgate High School, he enrolled in a drafting course at Oklahoma A&M Tech. Following his graduation in June 1955, he worked as a draftsman in Oklahoma City.
On June 3, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Giachino. In January 1957, he started college in the newly formed College of Engineering at Oklahoma City University, graduating in three years in what was a five-year program. Upon graduation, he received the Epsilon Pi Tau Outstanding Student Award and was initiated into Delta Pi Sigma honorary fraternity. While working full time for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, he completed a master’s degree in engineering at Oklahoma State University in May 1964. He then moved to the Department of Defense in Huntsville, Alabama for over seven years. During those seven years, he received four Outstanding Performance Awards. After working for the DOD, he returned to the FAA where he retired.
Sonny was very active in his church, St Thomas More University Parish where he served as a lector, greeter, communion minister, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also very active in many civic duties in Norman.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lucille and Willis; sister Doris; daughter, Lisa; and son, Darren. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Ann; son, Brian Worley, MD and his wife Libby Worley, MD; three grandchildren, Erin (Luke Normile), Mitchell, and Madelyn.
