Read moreCOALGATE ACADEMIC TEAM FINISHES SEASON STRONG. Over 2000 teams compete in National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) every year around the country. The team at Coalgate is one of them. OnApril 24 and 25, 2021, the team competed at NAQT’s Small School National Championship Tournament (SSNCT). After finishing the preliminary rounds on Saturday with a five and four record, the teamcompetedin the championshiprounds on Sunday to finish 17thin the Nation. This was the culmination ofa great season for the team. In addition to the 17thplace finish nationally, Coalgate finished in third place at the OSSAA 3A State Tournament and a Championship finish at the OAAC Froshmore Championship held at Rose State College in Midwest City. They also won the small school titles at each of the following NAQT events in Oklahoma: Wildcat Invitational, Oklahoma Early Fall Tournament, and Oklahoma NAQT State. The team also competed in the Jesse Brown Small School Showcase, hosted by Glasgow High School in Kentucky and featuring the 24 best Small Schools in the Nation. The team is led by Junior Captain Will Penney, who finished 12thin the Nation in Scoring, just missing All American Honors, All-State Senior Andy Nguyen, All-State Honorable Mention Senior Kallie Chapman, Froshmore All-Staters Freshman Rachel Prince, Aaron Mauk, and Jaydon Walters. Other team contributors include Juniors Caleb Heck, Reagan Carter, and Jagger Farris, Sophomore Peter Nguyen, and Freshmen Laney Brown, Ridge Duncan, and Brecken Hunt.
