E. E. Emerson Elementary celebrated National Read Across America Day on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Suess. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. Mrs. Romano baked the cake and cupcakes that were enjoyed by staff and students throughout the day. Students enjoyed hearing many of their favorite Dr. Suess stories. Several visitors read to the students.
Read moreLOCAL STUDENTS ATTEND PUBLIC SPEAKING TRAINING — Members of the Coalgate FCCLA chapter attended the Get SET Conference on January 10 in McAlester. Get SET stands for Speaking Excellence Training. These conferences are presented by the Oklahoma FCCLA Association in conjunction with Your Next Speaker. The Get SET Conference is designed for 8 -10 grade FCCLA members. The purpose of Speaking Excellence Training is to teach students how to enjoy the process of preparing to give their best at an FCCLA STAR Event competition or speaking opportunity. The training was led by Rhett Laubach and Kelly Barnes. The intra-curricular CareerTech Student Organization, FCCLA, is an integral part of the Oklahoma CareerTech System and supports family and consumer sciences education for students in grades six through adult. FCCLA is one of seven CTSOs affiliated with CareerTech career areas. If you live in Oklahoma, you know the Oklahoma University fight song, to paraphrase; “Cliff was Coalgate born and Coalgate bred...” Cliff probably would bleed purple if he were to get scratched. His parents, Larry and Susan Eddings, were both graduates of Coalgate High School and his grandparents were all lifelong Coalgate residents. You could argue that it was in his blood to be a Wildcat and he was a key contributor of the proud Wildcat tradition.
