Lady Wildcats Claim District Title
Three Oklahoma City suspects are facing charges in Coal County for drug trafficking, possession of controlled drugs with intent to distribute, and conspiracy. The two men and one female were taken into custody in Coalgate during the early morning hours of April 2.
Cade Cometti is the son of Chad and Shari Cometti, and the grandson of Sharon and the late Donn Baker. His hobbies include hunting and going to rodeos with his dad. Cade will be attending Connors State College on a baseball scholarship and plans to obtain his associates degree in criminal justice before moving on to a four-year college to hopefully continue his baseball career as he works toward his bachelor’s degree Ryfle Gold is the son of Kristin and DK Spears and Bo Gold. His siblings are Bredyn and Mahala Gold. He is the grandson of Tom Fritz and the late Karen Fritz. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends. After graduation he plans to attend East Central University where he will earn his degree in criminal justice.

Coalgate Lady Wildcats Win District Title
Coal County Disaster Task Force members loaded up and headed to Eagletown on April 5 at 9:00 a.m. to serve as backup for the Eagletown Fire Department during the April 8 total solar eclipse event. The convoy consisted of several vehicles loaded with gear that might possibly be needed for any incident that may arise - water rescue, wildland fires, structure fires, or search and rescue.

Coalgate Lady Wildcats Win District Title
A Celebration of Life for “Bill” Avanzini will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Coalgate, Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Carl Kerkemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Coalgate Cemetery. Visitation was at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Brown’s Funeral Service of Coalgate is in charge of arrangements.
THE EYE OF THE STORM Sunday morning at our house is a little like Dante’s Inferno. A great lament goes up among the children when they discover someone else has gone before them into the water chamber. In a few moments I will hear the hum of hair dryers and the shouts of, “Has anybody seen my brush?” I will hear a squeal of discovery, and then the one using the hair dryer will say, “I couldn’t find mine. Why can’t I use it? Come on, give it back!”
A long time ago — well one week ago — the much heralded “North American Eclipse” came to Allen. Weather forecasters happily forecasted that we probably wouldn’t be able to see it anyway. Clouds they said. I watched all this with a sort of wishy-washy attitude. I sort of wanted to see it but I sure wasn’t going to drive down toward Idabel and position myself so I could experience the full eclipse experience. I saw on my TV the story of this one family dragging their family and their trailer 1,700 miles to Texas so they could experience this historical celestial event together as a family. Foolish, I thought, as I wondered if I would even go outside for a peek or not.
